Obinna Akpuchukwu


Obinna is a Founding Partner and heads the Dispute Resolution Practice Group at the firm. He has been described as an “excellent litigator” who is noted for his ingenuity in canvassing novel legal arguments. He represents clients in litigation and arbitration proceedings in disputes arising in various industries, and renders legal advice on a wide range of commercial transactions.

Obinna is an extremely well-established disputes lawyer, highlighted by market commentators for his reputation and visibility in the litigation and arbitration spaces. He is a respected litigator and has experience in various commercial disputes. He regularly advices top Gaming (Sports Betting) Companies on issues related to registration and regulatory compliance in the Gaming Industry. He also regularly represents Gaming companies in disputes arising from betting claims by punters and undue regulatory interference by government agencies in their betting operations.

In addition to his works in Gaming law, he has advised and represented clients in complex and diverse Commercial/Corporate, Tax, Insolvency and Banking issues.

Obinna has a personal pet project of advocating for the rights of serving and retired military personnel and also for the rights of children. In this regard, he often presents soldiers standing trial in various Court Martials in Nigeria and acts as counsel to retired or serving soldiers or families of deceased soldiers seeking for payment of their emoluments. He also regularly takes up cases involving child adoption, child custody and maintenance and other related child right issues.    

He is a certified business recovery expert and currently a member of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN). He is also an accredited Insolvency Practitioner by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Furthermore, Obinna is a Chartered Arbitrator and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICARB). He is currently undergoing training to become a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). In 2023, Obinna was elected the Legal Adviser II of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA).
